JANET BOGARDUS

LCCE, CD(DONA) CLC

Janet Bogardus Childbirth Educator Doula NYC

Janet Bogardus holds a BA from Sarah Lawrence College is a certified childbirth educator, labor support doula, prenatal yoga teacher, and certified lactation counselor.

Janet comes to the world of birth from a dance and performance background (The Jon Stewart show, PBS, Lincoln Center). She became interested in childbirth when she first became pregnant over 20 years ago, becoming a prenatal yoga teacher. Janet received her doula training from with Debra Pascali-Bonaro through DONA, International in 2008 and her Certified Lactation Counselor credential in 2014 through Healthy Children's Center for Breastfeeding enabling her to provide evidence-based lactation support to the families she works with. Since 2006, Janet has been on faculty as a childbirth educator at Mt. Sinai West, formerly known as Roosevelt Hospital, and for over 12 years has had the privilege of teaching thousands of families in the New York City area.

Janet currently lives in Manhattan with her actor husband, children now 20 and 18 years old (!) and lovable dog, Mars.

I knew Janet was special when we attended our first birth together, nearly a decade ago. I was an RN working in the Roosevelt Birthing Center. She was the sharply dressed doula - wearing red Swedish tie clogs! - making everyone feel part of the team.

The close bond between Janet and the expectant parents was obvious - the way they interacted, the look of trust in each others eyes, and the way they managed each contraction together. Janet, in her loving, quiet way, was making me, the OBGYN (who the patient had only met once before), and everyone feel part of the whole experience. I was so impressed that Janet spent time giving gentle encouragement and support to the birth partner, which empowered them to be a more active participant in the birth of their child. This spoke volumes about Janet's philosophy of the childbirth experience and how inclusive and special it can and should feel.

Since then, I've seen Janet in action (still wearing those clogs!), teaching birthing classes with a knowledge base to which every health professional should aspire - sometimes using her corny jokes to make the anxious parents-to-be feel at ease - but always conveying solid and important information clearly and concisely. The bottom line is there is no-one else I would want to partner with than Janet. She reminds me and every mom or mom-to-be why birth is the most special, significant and transformative event of our lives."

DANIELLE JACKSON

RN, BSN, PGDipHSc (Midwifery), IBCLC

Danielle Jackson ICBLC NYC

Danielle holds a Bachelor of Nursing, Postgraduate Degree in Health Science (Midwifery) from the University of Sydney, Australia, and is an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC).

Danielle has worked in Maternal Child Health for 26 years with experience in NICU and labor and delivery. For the past 14 years Danielle has worked as an RN in the midwifery based Birthing Center at New York City’s Mt Sinai West Hospital, formally St. Luke's Roosevelt. Danielle has recently been recruited by New York Presbyterian Weil Cornell Hospital (Lower Manhattan) where she is now in a leadership position as IBCLC Lactation Consultant. She has dedicated her career to helping women and their families, and takes pride in her role as an educator, informing mothers and partners about breastfeeding, newborn care, sleep and settling, and newborn behavior.

Danielle lives in Brooklyn with her two beautiful red-headed children - one in college and one in high school - and her musician husband.

I recommend Danielle to families I work with not only because of her vast and varied experience as a midwife, labor and delivery nurse, lactation consultant and mother.

I tell people about Danielle because she has a heart of gold and spot on intuition when it comes to babies, parents and families. Everyone who meets her, loves her and knows she is special. It doesn't hurt that she's from Australia and has the cutest accent in the world.

Danielle cares about the people she works with, and goes beyond the prescribed consultation visit. She checks in with the families she is working with by text or email or even popping by when she happens to be in the neighborhood. Danielle is always making sure things are ok.

In sum, when it comes to early parenthood, a time of anticipation and new beginnings, there is no one I trust more than Danielle in terms of giving the right amount of care and expert attention."
